As Nigeria commemorates Children’s Day today, Princess Adeola Shittu, Convener of the Young Child in School Initiative and Founder of Event Diary Lifestyle, lends her voice to this year’s powerful theme: “Tapping the Untapped Natural Treasure.”
The theme serves as a clarion call to parents, educators, policymakers, and communities to recognize and invest in the immense, often overlooked potential of every Nigerian child. These young minds, when properly nurtured, hold the key to a brighter, more innovative future for the nation.
“Our children deserve safe and secure environments where they can play freely, learn meaningfully, and grow confidently,” Princess Shittu stated. “Providing secure playgrounds and quality learning centers isn’t just a gift—it’s our responsibility. Gift your children security today to empower their tomorrow.”
The Young Child in School Initiative continues to lead inclusive efforts that ensure all children—regardless of background—have access to education, emotional support, and opportunities to thrive, especially in underserved communities.
Princess Shittu also called on Nigerians to celebrate children not just today, but every day, by creating nurturing spaces, encouraging their creativity, and giving them a voice in shaping their own future.
