Veteran Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Rasaq Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo, has penned a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, Funmilayo Akanke Olayiwola, marking 25 years since her passing.
Funmilayo, who died on May 21, 2000, was a multi-talented performer, a gifted singer, chanter, dancer, and actress, who played a significant role in both Ojopagogo’s personal and professional life.
Taking to his Instagram page, the thespian shared an emotional message, recalling the immense impact his wife had on his life and career. Describing her as the embodiment of the saying “behind the success of a man, there is a woman,” Ojopagogo revealed how deeply she supported and influenced him.
He wrote:
“Some people may be wondering who this woman is. Only family, fans, and friends from way back can relate. She is the true definition of ‘behind the success of a man, there must be a woman,’ and this is the woman. Her name is Olayiwola Funmilayo Akanke née Inawole. My partner in everything. Singer, chanter, dancer, and actress to the core; my supporter, my friend, my love, my everything. She left us since May 21st, year 2000, and it still feels like yesterday. Rest on, Akanke mi.”
The tribute has since drawn an outpouring of love and condolences from fans and colleagues, many of whom remembered Funmilayo for her charisma and unique talents during her time in the Yoruba movie industry.
Ojopagogo’s remembrance post serves as a poignant reminder of enduring love and the silent contributions of women behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.
