The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu Basibo (Odoru V), the Alaperu of Iperu Remo. In a heartfelt tribute, the governor described the late monarch as a guiding light, custodian of tradition, and a pillar of wisdom and dignity whose leadership transformed the Iperu and Remoland communities.
Governor Abiodun, who hails from Iperu Remo, noted that the death of the revered king is a monumental loss not just to Iperu, but to Remoland and Ogun State as a whole. He praised Oba Basibo’s reign, highlighting his commitment to peace, progress, and the development of his people.
“Kabiyesi was more than a traditional ruler; he was a father to all, a unifier, and a true embodiment of leadership and service. His reign was marked by peace, progress, and unwavering commitment to the prosperity of our people,” the governor stated.
Reflecting on the monarch’s deep love for Iperu and his role in preserving the cultural heritage of Remoland, Abiodun acknowledged that his passing leaves a great void that will be difficult to fill.
“The throne has lost a noble occupant, the people have lost a compassionate leader, and we have lost our royal father, whose kindness and wisdom touched many lives profoundly,” he added.
As the community mourns, the governor extended his condolences to the royal family, chiefs, and the entire people of Iperu and Ogun State, urging them to take solace in the king’s remarkable legacy of honor, integrity, and selfless service. He also prayed for divine strength for the bereaved family and eternal rest for the late monarch.
“May his memory remain a source of inspiration and unity for generations to come. Sun re o, Kabiyesi! Farewell, our beloved king!” he concluded.
The passing of Oba Idowu Basibo has left Iperu Remo in deep mourning, with traditional rites expected to commence in accordance with Yoruba customs. The Ogun State government is expected to play a key role in honoring the monarch’s legacy and contributions to the state’s progress.
