Veteran Nigerian actor and theatre practitioner, Balogun Kola Oyewo is dead.
His death was announced by one of his relatives, Bayo Bankole, in a social media post on Thursday.
Bankole paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as a respected figure whose impact on the theatre and film industry would not be forgotten.
“A great actor finally took a bow. Rest in perfect peace, Uncle Kay, Balogun Kola Oyewo. It was an honour to have worked with you. I took pride in being the stage manager in your final year project. Till we meet to part no more. O digba sir,” he wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of death and other details surrounding his passing had not been made public.
Oyewo was widely respected within the Yoruba movie industry and built a distinguished career spanning stage and screen. He featured in numerous Yoruba-language films and was celebrated for his talent, professionalism and contribution to the growth of indigenous theatre and filmmaking in Nigeria.
His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, admirers and members of the entertainment industry, who remember him as a gifted actor and mentor.
