January 18th School Resumption Date: NAPPS President, Amusa Olawale Give Conditions To Proprietors

In line with the approval of Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that all Schools in Lagos State, can resume from January 18, 2021, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, (NAPPS), Lagos State, hereby, enjoin all members and other school owners to comply with the COVID-19 school reopening protocols.

In as much as we are all aware that these are ‘special times,’ we want to encourage every private school to adhere strictly to the coronavirus guidelines for school reopening which was used for resumption in September 2020.

*The guidelines include:*
(1)Compulsory wearing of facemasks by all students, teachers and workers in the school
(2) Temperature checks and hand washing facilities at strategic locations in all schools
3) Ensure constant supply of tap water and hand sanitizers
4) Enforcement and maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assemblies, Excursions, inter house sports and visiting days
5) Avoid overcrowding, including limitations in class sizes and hostel occupancy
6) Availability of functional Recovery Room with qualified Nurse.

The guidelines above were given by the Lagos State Ministry of Education through its Office of Education Quality Assurance, It is important that all stakeholders in the private education sector comply with these rules.

Please note, that these guidelines had been put to use during the September resumption, it is necessary that all schools do a review to ascertain if the facilities and Personal Protective Equipments are still functioning and available respectively.

It is the responsibility of each stakeholder to ensure we keep our environment clean and safe. This can be achieved if we all adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols.

We should remember that health is wealth, it had been reported that the second wave is virulent, I want to encourage us to be vigilant, orderly and comply strictly with these guidelines.

Again, be informed that official of the State Quality Assurance Department of the Ministry of Education and NAPPS Quality Assurance Team have directed to visit schools in order to Assess our level of Compliance.

Above all ,we thank all of you for the confidence you repose on myself and the entire Executive members.

Special thanks to all members that have been fasting and those on Special Prayers for our noble Association. God will continue to grant our heart desires.

We also want to use this opportunity to appreciate the Lagos Ministry of Education, Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance and all other stakeholders for their guidance, support and directions towards ensuring that every private school in the state comply and is safe for learning during the pandemic.

I pray that as we all take steps to resume on Monday and obey all these protocols, May God Almighty protect us and wipe out this pandemic from our nation and the world at large.
