A disturbing case of alleged fraud involving High Chief Ambassador Tanimola Oludare Sanyaolu, the Baagbeyi of Egbaland and Ago-Oba, has come to light. Sanyaolu, who is also known as the Eni Awo Kose Odo-Ile Yoruba, stands accused of defrauding his former secondary school senior, Mrs. Olaide M., of N16, 57,100 under the pretense of facilitating her family’s relocation abroad.
According to reports, Mrs. Olaide and her family had planned to move overseas in December 2023. Trusting Sanyaolu, whom she had known from their days at Vetland Grammar School, Ifako-Ijaiye, Agege, Lagos, she believed he was a legitimate travel agent. Sanyaolu allegedly quoted N16,057,100 as the cost of processing their travel plans. To meet this demand, Mrs. Olaide took a loan from a bank, using her father’s property as collateral, and transferred the amount to Chief Oludare ‘s account on December 23, 2023.
After making the payment, Mrs. Olaide was expecting to receive the traveling documents, but the High Chief was allegedly feeding her with different lies to maintain the illusion of progress. Months later, it became evident that no arrangements were being made. When confronted, the case escalated to the palace of Oba Alake of Egbaland, where traditional rulers and chiefs intervened. Sanyaolu reportedly promised to refund the money.
Further revelations indicated that Sanyaolu faced similar accusations from his in-law during the same period. Under pressure, he sold his car and managed to repay N8 million to Mrs. Olaide. However, shortly afterward, he fled to Coventry, UK, leaving an outstanding balance of N8 million.
The situation has left Mrs. Olaide in dire straits. The bank has been demanding loan repayments, which now include substantial overdue interest. With no means to repay the debt, Mrs. Olaide’s health has deteriorated. She has reportedly become mentally unstable, frequently visiting hospitals. Additionally, she claims to have noticed suspicious individuals, whom she fears may be linked to Sanyaolu, following her whenever she steps out.
In her desperate plea for justice, Mrs. Olaide is calling on authorities in both Nigeria and the UK to intervene and compel High Chief Sanyaolu to refund the remaining N8 million. She hopes this will help her resolve the loan issue and alleviate her suffering.
As of now, Sanyaolu remains unreachable, having allegedly blocked all communication channels with Mrs. Olaide. The case has drawn widespread concern, with many urging authorities to take swift action to ensure justice is served.
