Ogun Govt Breaks Silence on Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode Building Demolition Fears

The Ogun State Government has assured residents that its ongoing building verification exercise is not aimed at witch-hunting or victimizing anyone.

Speaking in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Tunji Odunlami, said the process is purely to regulate land use, support urban development, and ensure buildings meet approved standards.

According to him, the ongoing checks in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode cover all types of developments, residential, commercial, and institutional.

Property owners who received enforcement notices, he explained, only need to present their building permits and relevant documents to the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority for verification.

Odunlami stressed that the exercise is not new, having been carried out in other areas like Abeokuta, and will soon extend to Ota and Ilaro. He added that the enforcement is uniform, regardless of who the developer is, and is backed by law, even for buildings erected before the legislation.

In a pointed remark, the commissioner disclosed that former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel is yet to respond to a notice served on him, unlike other “genuine developers” who have complied through the proper channels.
