Ubuntu Spirit Comes Alive as South African Heritage Day Hits Lagos

Lagos is set to witness a vibrant cultural exchange as the South African Consulate in Lagos, in collaboration with Afroflavour, hosts the 2025 South African Heritage Day Celebration in Nigeria.

 

The highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Federal Palace Hotel Gardens, Lagos, from 12noon to 8pm.

 

According to the organisers, the Heritage Day celebration is designed to foster cultural understanding, cooperation, and exchange between South Africa and Nigeria. Attendees will be treated to an unforgettable experience of music, dance, food, fashion, and art, showcasing the rich traditions of both nations.

 

 

This year’s edition is packed with exciting attractions, including: Trip to Cape Town Experience – Guests will enjoy the beauty of Cape Town with the Afroflavour Passport and boarding pass. Culture Market – A vibrant Pan-African marketplace featuring food, fashion, jewellery, craftsmanship, and art. African Cuisine – A fusion of South African classics like bobotie, bunny chow, and Cape Malay curry with Nigerian favorites. Shaka Zulu’s Throne – A photo experience symbolizing Zulu heritage and strength. Live Music & Jazz – Traditional rhythms from South Africa and Nigeria. Afroliganza Fashion Procession – Curated by the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation, featuring South African fashion alongside Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Urhobo styles. Creators Lab – Interactive discussions on Culture, Food, and Africa 2063. Tripe Love Cook-Off – The first-ever six-nation tripe competition featuring South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Morocco, and Zimbabwe.

 

 

Tickets for an event like no other are available at www.naija.events, with General Admission at N10,000 and VIP at N50,000.

 

The event is proudly supported by South African Airways and the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation.

 

Speaking ahead of the event, Sebo Lenyai of the South African Consulate emphasized the importance of unity:

 

“There is more that binds us than divides us, and together we can make Africa 2063 a reality.”

 

Lucky Idike Jr., Founder of Afroflavour, added:

 

“What began as a dream to spotlight African cuisine has grown into a global mission to position food as a catalyst for trade, culture, and economic growth.”
