Sowore, 4 Others Regain Freedom

The Chief Magistrate of a Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore in the sum of N20 million and two sureties in like sum.

The court further ordered that one of his sureties must be a civil servant not below grade level 12.

His four co-defendants — Juwon Sanyaolu, Peter Williams, Emmanuel Bulus, and Damilare Adenola were also granted bail in the sum of N1 million each.’

Recall that Sowore and other activists were arrested on New Year’s Eve in Abuja for protesting against bad governance by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

They are currently facing trial before Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello for alleged unlawful assembly, criminal conspiracy, and inciting public disturbance.

The court also ordered Sowore not to leave Abuja and to physically report to the court registrar every Monday and Friday while the case against him lasts.
