Ovasabi Reintroduces Himself with Black & White EP: A Bold Leap in Sound and Storytelling

Nigerian-born rapper and songwriter Ovasabi has officially released his highly anticipated project, Black & White, a sonically daring and emotionally charged EP that captures the duality of human experience.

Two years after his Book of Ovasabi EP, Ovasabi—now based in New York—returns with a body of work that doesn’t just show growth, but a complete artistic transformation. The project, which dropped in September 2025, has already been gaining momentum, especially following the success of the lead single “I NEED THAT,” released in August.

“Black and White is good and evil. Rich and poor. Life and death. Truth and lies. Love and hate. You getting Black and White,” Ovasabi explained, emphasizing that the project is less metaphor and more manifesto.

An Artist Between Continents

Having carried the energy of Lagos and the Delta to New York, Ovasabi blends raw African rhythms with global hip-hop sensibilities. The EP’s soundscape is layered and experimental, thanks to contributions from producers such as Kulcha, Grndmstr, and Erizbeat. One of the standout moments comes in “Alone”—a deeply personal track featuring Rostov and Gregrics—where Ovasabi raps candidly about a past relationship.

“I rapped about my ex-girlfriend. That verse had been in me for a while, but since this is Black & White, I got vulnerable and let it out,” he shared.

Global Collaborations and Influences

The project features international collaborations, including Australian singer Stephanie Milostic, alongside Gregrics and Rostov, underscoring Ovasabi’s vision of blending diverse creative energies. A&R Sleem Jim, who has worked with him since Book of Ovasabi, played a pivotal role in shaping the new EP’s direction and sequencing.

Living in Dualities

While the EP’s title may suggest commentary on race, Ovasabi is clear that Black & White is about deeper contrasts. “It’s not about color. It’s about words, lyrics, energy, rhythms. An image, an experience, a flow,” he said.

Every track is a reflection of dualities—light and dark, joy and sorrow, vulnerability and confidence. For Ovasabi, these extremes aren’t just themes, they’re lived experiences.

A Turning Point

With Black & White, Ovasabi marks a new chapter in his career. “I believe great things are ahead. But I leave that in God’s hands,” he said, hinting at more to come while urging fans to take in the current project fully.

Already hailed for its raw honesty and bold experimentation, the EP positions Ovasabi as one of the most compelling Nigerian voices bridging local and international music scenes.

Black & White is now streaming worldwide.
