Nigeria records 631 new COVID-19 cases, eight deaths across 19 states, FCT

19 states and the Federal Capital Territory reported 631 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, according to figures released on Friday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported eight COVID-19 related deaths. 

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Friday.

According to the agency, the 631 new cases were recorded from Rivers, Lagos, Katsina, Abia, Kano, Anambra, Edo, the FCT and 12 other states.

Lagos recorded the highest number of new infections with 172 cases, Oyo – 93, Rivers – 72, Edo – 63, Katsina – 29, Abia – 26, FCT – 23, Kano – 23, Bayelsa – 20, Ogun – 20, Ekiti – 18, Anambra – 16, Delta – 16, Osun – 14, Imo – 11, Benue – 6, Enugu – 4, Jigawa – 2, Niger – 2 and Nasarawa – 1

The health agency said the 582 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 193,644.

However, 179,249 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With eight COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,488, NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
