NASRE Calls For Investigation Into Mining Operations On OAU Campus

The Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) has strongly condemned the reported illegal mining activities within the premises of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife.

The association expressed solidarity with affected students, faculty, and staff members, stressing the need by the authorities to address this alarming issue.

NASRE emphasizes the critical need for thorough investigations to gauge the extent of these illicit operations and to hold accountable those responsible. The safety and well-being of the university community are paramount and must take precedence.

In a statement signed by Lateef Owodunni, Media Director, the media group demanded to know under whose watch such ecological devastation is taking place.

“NASRE echoes the call for immediate intervention to cease these illegal activities, thereby averting further environmental damage and safeguarding the local populace. We stress the importance of upholding academic sanctity and adherence to regulations. We assert that university community should not be subjected to such blatant disregard for the law.

“Furthermore, NASRE urges pertinent authorities, including the university management, the Federal Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Solid Minerals, to collaborate in launching a comprehensive probe into the matter. It is imperative that perpetrators face legal consequences to deter future transgressions.

“In addition, NASRE encourages international organizations to offer support in addressing this pressing issue, given its implications for environmental sustainability and public health beyond the local community.”

Reaffirming its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of all Nigerians, NASRE pledges to closely monitor developments at OAU.
The association calls on all stakeholders to join forces in protecting educational institutions and securing a prosperous future for the nation.
