Award-winning producer, publisher and activist, Lawrence Onuzulike, has said the overall feeling that screen writers who happen to play very important roles in film making are not being well recognized and rewarded in the Nigerian film industry is the major reason why Nollywood Screen Writing Contest (NSWC) was created.
Lawrence Onuzulike, the creator of the project, while reacting to questions from some sections of the media from both print, broadcast and online platforms said;
(NSWC) was created to reward hardworking screen writers and highlight the vital roles they play in film making.
Opened to all Nigerians with amazing prizes of almost two million naira, NSWC, is geared at correcting that by bringing to the fore the vital roles played by screen writers in movie production…and in the film industry as a whole.
Boosted by celebrity and accomplished judges like veteran Nollywood actors Clarion Chukwura and Segun Arinze, President of Directors Guild of Nigeria, Victor Okhai and Yinka Ogun, President, Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria, interested participants shall submit the first 20 scenes from their scripts. The judges shall choose the best 20 submissions.
The owners of the best 20 submissions shall be asked to submit the entire scripts which must be between 100 and 135 scenes. The judges shall then choose the best 3 scripts (the top 3 winners).
The Top 3 Winning Scripts shall automatically become the property of Aforevo, and can be used as desired by the Company. While the Screenwriter retains his or her Credit for Story and Screenplay.
N1,000,000 (One Million Naira); Winning script to be made into a blockbuster Nollywood movie, 1-year script writing contract with Aforevo will be the star prize of the winner. According to Chinwe Chukwudire and Peter Cobham who represented Aforevo at the event, the media campaign and the razzmatazz that will surround the contest will not only shed light on screen writers but will also make them the point of focus for once in the industry often dominated by actors, directors and producers. This is one of the kind project that has never been done on this scale in Nigeria.
