Gubernatorial Election: Forgotten Facts About Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun- By Gbolahan Adetayo

In the early 90s, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the current Governor of Ogun State was an aspiring politician who was passionate about contributing to the development of his community. He formed a political organization known as the Dapo Abiodun Political Organization (DAPO), which aimed to mobilize young people and promote their participation in politics.

One of DAPO’s notable contributions to development was in the area of education. The organization established a scholarship scheme that awarded educational grants to brilliant and indigent students in Ogun State. The scholarship scheme was aimed at promoting education and empowering young people who may not have had the means to pursue their educational aspirations.

The scheme was well-received by the people of Ogun State, and it helped to raise the profile of Dapo Abiodun and his political organization. Many young people who benefitted from the scholarship scheme went on to excel in their academic pursuits and became successful professionals in their chosen fields.

We should not forget in haste that, through the organization, that Dapo never relented in distributing writing materials, such as a yellow cover note books branded with his name and photograph, to Primary and Secondary Schools in his environment.

Years after, he made a move to become the next governor of the state but he lost the ticket to Otunba Gbenga Daniel during the primary election of his then Political party (PDP).

He later moved to All Progressive Congress (APC) where he contested against late Senator Buruji Kashamu of blessed memory, to represent his constituency at red chamber and lost again.

Despite his failure in becoming a Senator that year, Abiodun didn’t give up in supporting the youths of his constituency through education, churning out series of scholarships.

In addition to the scholarship scheme, DAPO also organized several community development projects such as provision of clean water, and youth empowerment initiatives. These projects helped to improve the living conditions of the people in the communities where they were implemented.

Today, Dapo Abiodun is the Governor of Ogun State, and his commitment to education and community development has not waned. His administration has continued to prioritize education and infrastructure development, with the aim of improving the lives of the people of Ogun State.

In conclusion, the Dapo Abiodun Political Organization played a significant role in promoting education and community development in Ogun State in the 90s. Its scholarship scheme and community development projects helped to empower young people and improve the living conditions of the people in the communities where they were implemented. These contributions to development are a testament to Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to making a positive impact on his community.

Though, a certain set of people in Remo metropolitan area of the state, who are probably the enemy of progress are spreading fallacious news in the state, claiming that Dapo hasn’t done anything since he assumed office.

But research revealed that Prince Dapo Abiodun’s 100 days in office, one of the projects he executed was the renovation of most Primary and Secondary Schools in the state, abandoned by the previous administration.
