It was an emotional moment at Irewon Cemetery, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State when tears rolled out from the eyes of the children of Yeye Oba Deborah Taiwo Odedina (Nee Odukoya) aka Mama Zaria as her remains were finally laid to rest.
The befitting burial kicked off with a Christian Wake Keep on Friday 23rd April 2021 at Odedina’s Family Compound, Igboburo’s Quarters Odo-Egbo Ijebu-Ode, which was well attended and it spoke volumes of the good works of the departed soul.
On Saturday 24th April, around 10:00am, her remains were taken to St Saviours Anglican Cathedral, Itaolowajoda, Ijebu-Ode, for church service which lasted for hours before she was finally buried at the Irewon Cemetery. The entertainment of guests took place at Alfred Susan Event Center, Otunba Bayo Erinle Street, Ijebu-Ode.
Mama was survived by her children Deaconess Esther Osoba, Mrs Aderonke Mayungbe, Pastor Adewale Odedina, Lady Abosede Odedina and Mrs Iyabode Bakare and her grandchildren.
The superlative event was well attended by the management of Bisofem International, Omoba Olubisi Odukoya, Olubunmi Adebanke Odedina, Pastor Adesegun Onabote and many more prominent people in Ijebu-Ode.
If you must know, Mama Zaria was born on a Thursday and she died on a Thursday at age 90. She was the first twin set, being the last born of Late Papa Samuel Odukoya Oluyokun. Her twin sister, Dorcas Kehinde Onabote (nee Odukoya) aka Mama OdoEgbo died in the year 2000. Yeye Oba Odedina lived most of her life in the Northern Nigeria, and was a devout Christian of St George’s Cathedral, Sabongari Zaria before she came back to Ijebu-Ode. Her husband, Omoba Olufunmilade Odedina died in 2004. May her soul rest in peace.
