In a recent statement, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has clarified its business dealings with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), dispelling rumors that it has received payments from IPMAN to supply refined petroleum products. The refinery’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, emphasized that no direct payments have been made by IPMAN to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and that ongoing discussions have not yet formalized any direct business transactions.
Dangote Refinery stated that recent reports suggesting IPMAN members are struggling to load refined products from the refinery are inaccurate. According to Chiejina, “We currently have no direct business dealings with IPMAN” and thus cannot be held accountable for payments that IPMAN may have made to other entities. The refinery clarified that any payments in question were made to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and not directly to Dangote. Furthermore, NNPCL has neither approved nor authorized the refinery to release Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to IPMAN.
In addressing the country’s petroleum supply, the refinery assured the public of its capacity to meet Nigeria’s demand for various petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. With a current loading capacity of 2,900 trucks per day and ongoing distribution via sea routes, Dangote Refinery expressed confidence in its ability to meet national needs.
Chiejina also urged IPMAN members to register with the refinery and make direct payments, stating that the refinery has ample supplies available to meet their requirements.
The statement from Dangote Petroleum Refinery further called for restraint among stakeholders regarding media statements, emphasizing that “unfounded statements in the media… could undermine the economic re-engineering efforts” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The refinery encouraged a united approach to addressing challenges within Nigeria’s petroleum sector, urging collaboration and constructive engagement over media speculation.
