In response to recent speculations, the Dangote Group has clarified that no new legal action has been initiated against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) or other parties involved. In a press statement released on Monday, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, emphasized that the issue in question is not recent but stems from events dating back to June 2024.
Chiejina explained that the matter was initially filed on September 6, 2024, but since then, discussions between the involved parties have been ongoing, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive regarding the “Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Naira Initiative”, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
“We have made tremendous progress in that regard, and events have overtaken this development,” Chiejina stated. “No party has been served with court processes, and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings.”
Chiejina further reassured that no court orders have been issued and that the ongoing discussions will prevent any adverse effects on the parties involved. He added, “We understand that once the matter comes up in January 2025, we would be in a position to formally withdraw the matter in court.”
The statement underscores the cooperative efforts between the parties to resolve the issue amicably and in line with national directives, ensuring that any potential litigation is avoided.
