Dangote Debunks Claims of Selling PMS at N898/Litre to NNPCL, Urges Nigerians to Disregard False Reports

The management of Dangote Refinery has refuted recent claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, that it sells Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per litre to NNPCL. The company, through a press statement issued by its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, described the statement as “misleading and mischievous,” suggesting it was intended to undermine the significant progress made in addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges.

The statement, released on September 15, 2024, emphasized that Nigerians should disregard the claim, which comes as the country prepares for a new pricing framework. A formal announcement on the pricing structure will be made by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, a body appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, set to commence its work on October 1, 2024.

Chiejina explained that the company’s current stock of crude was procured in dollars and clarified that the products were sold to NNPCL in dollars, providing savings compared to NNPCL’s current import rates. This move is expected to ensure that petrol will be available in every local government area across the country, including the most remote regions.

In addition, the company reassured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and reiterated its commitment to ending the chronic fuel scarcity that has plagued the country for decades.

The statement marks a crucial step in the ongoing effort to resolve Nigeria’s fuel supply issues and ensure nationwide access to affordable petroleum products.
