The Movie Producer Association (AMP) of Nigeria is teaming up with the Global Audiovisual Training Center (GATC), a Rio de Janeiro-based global training hub, in a significant collaboration move, to meet the escalating international demand for below-the-line crew training programs.
Responding to the worldwide skills shortage in the audiovisual sector, GATC had previously partnered with Olsberg SPI, a London-based creative industries consultancy, to provide specialized training courses for global industry professionals. The collaboration aimed to enhance workforce skills and promote policies supporting audiovisual industries.
As part of its commitment to international expansion, GATC conducted a Technical Update Program for Audiovisual Professionals in Spain last October, sponsored by the Spain Film Commission. The program, delivered in Spanish by industry experts, featured a series of online Master Classes covering various facets of audiovisual production.
The momentum continued at the Ventana Sur 2023 international film market in Buenos Aires in December, where GATC’s expansion efforts were highlighted during the panel discussion, “The Film Industry and Technical Training: The weak link in the audiovisual production chain.”
The latest development involves a new MOU between GATC and the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria, (AMP)paving the way for a pilot program via Zoom in March 2024. The program will consist of five Masterclasses, with topics to be mutually agreed upon. Access to the classes will be open to Nigerian residents, with AMP members benefiting from free enrollment, while non-members can participate at a nominal fee.
Expressing excitement about the partnership, GATC President Steve Solot noted, “This marks the first milestone of GATC’s international operations in Africa, and the collaboration with AMP sets a commendable example for film industries worldwide seeking to attract international productions.”
AMP’s National President, Amb. Dr Queen Blessing Ebigieson, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership in preparing Nigeria for international productions. She stated, “This venture between AMP and GATC exemplifies our association’s leadership, benefiting our members and positioning Nigeria for international film, television, and audiovisual content productions.”
