“Our Welfare & Protection Also Important”-Disables To Gov Oyetola, Demans For Agency Establishment

The news emanating from the state of Osun has claimed that a group of people living with disabilities in the state has sought a 40 per cent quota for its members in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise in the state.

They also appealed to the governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to establish an agency that would directly look after their welfare and protection.

The group made its demand known during a Governor’s Family Meeting organised by the Office of Civic Engagement at Olaoluwa Local Government Area of the state.

Rahman Rauf, who spoke on behalf of the group at the meeting, said the creation of the agency for People Living With Disability must be embraced by the government.

He noted that the creation of the agency would be proof that the current administration is giving them a community.

He said, “The government should always earmark a quota for the community of People Living With Disability in every recruitment process. We want the government to give us at least a 40 per cent quota in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise in the state.”

The Governor, in a statement on Friday, restated the commitment of his administration to protecting the dignity of persons living with disabilities.

Oyetola, who was represented at the meeting by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said his administration believed that people living with disabilities deserve the same right and privileges as other citizens.

He added that the government would not relent in making policies and programmes that would affect their lives positively and directly.
