FG Unveils 5,000 Renewed Hope Homes in Lekki as Traditional Rulers, Industry Leaders Commend Harmony Gardens

The Federal Government has unveiled the construction of 5,000 Renewed Hope Housing Units in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s estimated 15 million housing deficit and expand access to affordable homeownership.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, disclosed this during the groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Lekki Aviation Town, Yegunda Government Resettlement Scheme, Ibeju-Lekki.

The development, being undertaken in partnership with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, will deliver 5,000 residential units across Lekki Aviation Town, The Parliament and GranVille Estate within 36 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained concerned about the country’s housing deficit, estimated at 15 million units, affecting approximately 120 million Nigerians.

He explained that the Federal Government was considering a nationwide social housing initiative involving the construction of 100 housing units in each local government area, alongside a proposed 100,000-unit housing programme.

According to the Minister, feasibility assessments and costing exercises were underway to accommodate differences in construction costs across states.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, Hon. (Dr.) Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, popularly known as Mr-Ibile and the Lagos Landlord, described the partnership as an opportunity to make homeownership more accessible to Nigerians through structured and affordable payment arrangements.

He reaffirmed Harmony Gardens’ commitment to delivering housing developments supported by essential infrastructure, environmental responsibility and sustainable community planning.

The ceremony also witnessed expressions of confidence from prominent traditional rulers, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Alamu Kehinde Oloyede Onikosi, Edun Arobadi I, the Onikosi of Ikosi in Kosofe, Lagos State; His Royal Highness, Oba (Dr.) Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Otufesojoye, Adetutu I, the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu Kingdom; and His Royal Majesty, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, Arolugbade Elepe II, the Oloja of Epe Land.

The monarchs expressed confidence in Harmony Gardens’ capacity to deliver the housing project, describing the company as more than a conventional property developer.

They acknowledged the humanitarian disposition of its Managing Director, his commitment to community welfare, and his emphasis on environmental care, infrastructure development and improving the living conditions of residents and host communities.

Also speaking, Damola Akinyelure of Metroscape expressed appreciation to the Managing Director of Harmony Gardens for agreeing to undertake the delivery of 5,000 housing units in Lagos State under the Renewed Hope initiative.

Akinyelure acknowledged Mosadoluwa’s contributions to the 4,000 housing units already delivered in Karsana, Abuja, describing his involvement in housing development as significant.

He described the Harmony Gardens boss, popularly known as the Lagos Landlord, as a major player in Nigeria’s real estate industry whose contributions to housing development had not received the level of public recognition they deserved.

According to him, Mosadoluwa’s involvement in large-scale housing delivery reflects the growing importance of indigenous private developers in addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges.

The ceremony attracted dignitaries from the National Assembly, federal and Lagos State governments, traditional institutions, the business community and the entertainment industry.

Among the attendees were Senator Dandutse and the Chairman of the relevant Senate Committee, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Belgore, and the Ministry’s Director responsible for Public-Private Partnerships.

Nine members of the House of Representatives attended, led by Hon. Abdul Mumim, while Hon. Prince Bayo Balogun represented the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, was represented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams.

Other notable personalities included the Olorogun Ado of Lagos, the Olu of Agege, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, Reverend Chris Fayioro, High Chief Abolanle Mogaji, Adeyinka Adeleke, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Adeleke, and Fuji music legends Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and Alhaji Sefiu Alao.

The groundbreaking marks the commencement of a major residential development expected to contribute 5,000 housing units to Lagos State’s housing stock, create construction-related employment opportunities and support the Federal Government’s broader housing delivery programme.

The project also reinforces the role of public-private partnerships in mobilising indigenous developers, private investment and technical expertise to address Nigeria’s housing needs.
