The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Rotimi Raji, popularly known as “Genius”, one of Nollywood’s most creative movie directors.
Raji tragically passed away on February 15, 2025, at his residence in Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos. Reports indicates that he slumped in the bathroom and died.
According to sources, Raji, who lived alone, was discovered by a concerned neighbor who had gone to check on him. After repeatedly calling his name without receiving a response, the neighbor noticed that one of his windows was open. Peering inside, he saw Raji lying motionless on the bathroom floor. Alarmed, he knocked on the door several times, but there was still no answer. Eventually, with the help of others, the door was forced open, confirming their worst fears, Rotimi Raji had passed away.
His body has since been taken to the mortuary as his family plans to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of his death.
Rotimi Raji was widely known for his remarkable storytelling, creativity, and immense contributions to Nollywood. His passing is a great loss to the industry, colleagues, and fans who admired his work.
